A Guide to Zero Waste Sewing Patterns

A Guide to Zero Waste Sewing Patterns

What's zero-waste sewing?
For many years the textiles industry has been one of the least sustainable industries. For one, fast fashion companies driving towards low costs of production this often comes at the expense of exploited workers being underpaid and often working in poor conditions.

In developed countries we see a huge spike in consumption and a staggering amount of clothes going to landfill. In the sewing community there's been a move towards being more conscious consumers, this means buying better quality, supporting brands which are more transparent, and learning how to alter and mend clothes.

Zero waste patterns we love
In this guide we'll cover some zero waste patterns that we love and fabric recommendations from our in-house range of environmentally-conscious, digitally printed textiles.

Bag-uette's Stash bag
would be a great colour blocking project. In the images below I've paired different fabrics from our Menagerie collection. This would make a fabulous gift for a knitter or artist (think of all the pencils you could fit in those slots).

Birgitta Helmersson has many incredible zero waste patterns as seen above, the Zero Waste Cropped Shirt would look gorgeous in our Palm Springs fabric which features vintage inspired keys. Her other patterns with feminine silhouette like the Zero Waste Gathered Dress or Zero Waste Soft Blouse would look awesome in this fabric too.

In a similar fashion, Palm springs would also look great on Criswood Sew's Parasol Dress & Blouse Pattern

This fashion forward Fanny Pack by Process of Sewing would pair so well with our Wild Wood collection. It makes for a great everyday bag or storing snacks on a light trail walk. You could use the Wild Wood fabric all over or as a feature panel in the bottom half.
